That clip doesn't bridge anything. it is designed to connect to a protrack scanner for troubleshooting defective cards.
like another poster said, pin one is at the "dot" (also an arrow on the board shows it) The pins count out counter clockwise and pin 8 is opposite of pin one.
you cannot bridge this chip while booting. as you discovered yourself. you need to solder a jumper on like the guy in the video did. the connection must be permanent.
