Do we need to understand how something works before we can use it? Definitely! who in the right mind to spend his/her money without knowing what it's all about. I already did convince my parents since I started to believe that cryptocurrencies has a potential in the future but they are not believing me, maybe because they are too old as teaching them is too hard for them to learn new things with our modern world. It is better for you to show them how it is working or make a move to yourself that will show them your results with it.
You only have to read through twitter / facebook etc to see and understand that masses of uneducated(in crypto) people are throwing money into cryptocurrency.
