Why do you need the snapshot?
Could you simply open the wallet and wait for it to sync, if you never used it before?

Allow me to differ on that one. While it is absolutely true that blockchain should be pure, and load organically on all machines, blockchains get corrupt and this requires a bit of hardcoded fixes.
We can't seem to be able to sync organically, so while the devs fix this problem the show must go on. This is where bootstraps are needed.
