Cash is the king. If bitcoin waives its peer-to-peer transaction fee, it may have a chance to win the title. 
I think we will not be seeing bitcoins fees to lower. As the bitcoin increases so thus the fees. I hope a development or enhancement to blockchain's technology will be done in order to support transactions to lower the fees.
