You're right, but if project is big enough and promising it's better to invest money then bet because investment is more safe.
Why are bets not safe if the project is promising?
I meaned bets in general, not bets in specific project, because if you make wrong bet you lose you money meanwhile investments are protected by agreement or something like that.
To say honestly, not all investments can be saved. If the project goes bankrupt, then no one will return your investment.
