so at max it is 3 days or can it be much longer? i mean will the diff auto switch after 3 days even if nobody mines it? or will it be stuck at high diff until 1440 blocks are mined at whatever the diff is?
It will be stuck at high dif until 1440 blocks are mined. The ~3days is the estimate if blocks are being solved at the expected rate of the coin, but of course as we have seen time and again, when diff raises, the masses jump off because its no longer profitable, leaving a diff much higher than the remaining low hashrate can handle. This is one of the larger retarget times I've seen on a recent coin launch, as most go much much less to help circumvent this situation.
