what's going on? No answer to 2weix loss of BTC 200 either. Is piuk on vacation?
2weix's coins were lost because of an issue with the first version of the android app. He generated a new address and it didn't properly sync with the server. Unfortunately with the phone being rooted and accessing the local wallet stored on the app the coins are permanently lost. The the bug was fixed a while ago in the new version of the app (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=piuk.blockchain.android).
If it's a bug, do you at least partially take responsibility and are offering a partial refund?
I agree with 2weiX here. If a person looses money because of your application's bug, you should atleast partially refund him/her.
I dont agree with this.
2weix' loss is extremely unfortunate and I feel with him for 2 reasons:
- I've lost considerable amounts of coins due to software problems (caused by myself mostly)
- I've lost (albeit very little) bitcoins in a way very similar to what 2weix has experienced
It's impossible to deliver bug-free software. Piuk stated he holds responsible for fixing bugs as soon as possible. That's about all you can ask (except maybe for the software to be opensource). Otherwise you're stifling innovation (noone will release any kind of bitcoin wallet software if he's liable for anything bad that happens through the use of it). If you're still demanding to be protected from software faults, you are advised to test wether the software will do what you desire in the circumstances you intend to use it in before actually using it.
It would be generous and forthcoming of piuk to offer partial compensation ("refund" is the wrong word because nothing was received by piuk, at least we have to assume) and I'm pretty sure he would do it if it was possible. But of course he
cannot do this because there is no way for him to discern real from fraudulent loss reports and the latter would bankrupt him in no time.
You are right! Maybe I got too emotional, as this has happened with me before.
