The reason why mining bitcoins is not so profitable nowadays is due to the increase of difficulty in mining. The difficulty comes in when there are many mining farms who compete with each other to solve blocks. The lesser the hashpower means less mining productivity, in the end it become the battle of the  strongest hashpower.
