There is chance for ethereum to be one of the crypto currency to be used widely. It is well design and fast transaction.
I don't think it will chance for ethereum to be the one of the crypto currency, because bitcoin is first and the King of cryptocurrencies and for me its impossible to ethereum overtake bitcoin.
