Here how I motivate my employee
1. Analytical types want to know that a project is valuable, and that their work makes a difference to its success. They need a leader who excels in a particular area, and whose expertise they believe benefits the group.
2. Share in the sacrifice. Leaders dont ask people to do what they themselves arent willing to do. Dont tell your people to work over the weekend if youve got plans for a spa day. Roll up your sleeves and share the load.
3. Appeal to their emotions. Fear focuses peoples attention and can be an effective motivator. If we dont get this done right now, well all lose our jobs.
4. Give people multiple reasons for doing what you want them to do. You can give your own reason or the organizations reason for requesting the action. If we dont get this project completed on schedule, well lose the contract. But the best reason of all is always personal.
As a leader, anytime you talk about values, about identity either the corporate identity or each persons identity, and about long-term goals, your intent whether you know it or not is to inspire.
