I just noted that your rig dropping from 8.5 MH/s down to 3 MH/s was similar to my GTX 1080 going from about 1200-1300 kH/s down to around 385 kH/s using that version of ccminer that sp_ may or may not have been claiming was superior.
In other strange news concerning hsrminer, reported hashrate once again drops precipitously after 1 hour of operation. This is really bizarre/fishy.
Also, there seems to be no difference in maximum hashrate whether intensity is set to 2, 3 or 4 - at least on my setup.
that drop is due to miner fee .... when it ends there is small iddle time .... it was written somewhere here ....
and about -i ... yes ... i have intensity 3 only on my 70s ... 80ti and 70ti with no intensity set
