Verge has improved privacy to a great extent, by their wraith protocol, they has even hired 3rd party audits to prove its effectiveness. I like the idea, but it is done to make some people who have money in other coins shut up and stop the idiotic stuff they say about this protocol not working properly.
Verge is going to make more changes ( changing the blockchain for wraith..) we'll see what happens
