just download the driver from the amd homepage
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.42&lang=English
and do that in your terminal in the same folder as the driver:
"sudo sh ati-driver-installer-11-6-x86.x86_64.run"
when this is finished, do
"sudo aticonfig --initial -f --adapter=all"
and a reboot afterwards nearly always helps
