Hardware  wallets are the best choice to keep your bitcoin/ altcoins. They are top secured from hacking, but personally, I see that hardware wallet used when you have a massive amount of bitcoin to keep, for example an amount more than 10 btc, otherwise you can use online wallets, like blockchain, they are secure too if you save your private keys carefully.
