Sure you can fake details to free services but when you need to buy something you have to put your credit card into it or other identification documents. Best example are exchanges and payment processors like SKRILL where you cannot lift your limits if you are not identified.
On a bitcoin address you can use different tools and services to mix the coin until you forward it to a new address. This way bitcoin become from pseudo-anonymous to anonymous.
