Useless to mine with but not useless for mining.   I use an old laptop to SSH into my miners as well as keep my wallets. Coins that can be staked could be done through your wallets to generate some $$$ but from my experience even if the laptop can mine decently, they can't dissipate the heat fast enough and will burn out quick.
