i was standing up a new miner against kano.is just now - cgminer won't initialize, other pools work fine though. So maybe if your already part of the pool your good, if your just joining going to have to wait it seems.
Yep - cgminer's already connected to a pool server will continue operating normally until the connection drops because it already knows the IP of the server and has no need for DNS lookup
