It is not about my looks here considering my girlfriend is the hottest girl at uni
But I just can't make friends and have been ignored in groups on several occasions on accounts of being boring

Don't push yourself to make friends. Maybe your an introvert, people like you are having hard time to find friends. Simply because the character you have are different from those extrovert. The best thing to do is be yourself, and if someone approach you tell them that one of your weakness is having new friend because you are not good a simple talk.
