There are t- and z-addresses. the t-addresses are public like e. g. zsoemTfqjicem2QVU8cgBHquKb1o9JR5p4Z is a t-address. z-adresses are longer and are only available in the swing wallet for now and all transactions made to and from a z address are private. Usually you can't mistake them, once you know that. Maybe you have added a blank by fault or the address wasn't complete? You should double check that as well.
