I can give you a real life example there are companies in Pharma/Healthcare world (will not take name) that provides data to all pharmas so they can use it to make call on doctors. They make their agreement in such a way that all the data is inter exchangeable and lot of it is sold at a premium price. How the pharmas benefit as it is a regulated space they do not have to worry about maintaining the integrity of it and getting permissions.
