Trying 1.6.6.9, mine is crashing on startup as well, tried with a completely fresh data dir, both the 32 bit and 64 bit wallets. Gets to Loading blocks... and just closes. Windows 10 i7-4770k 16gb ram, wallet is on an ssd. I also tried with the bootstrap, same results.
You can use older version 1.6.6.7 before problems with new release will be sorted out. Follow the instructions
