What sort of Mac? What version of OS X?
Can you try installing bfgminer from here:
http://homebrew.xgminer.com
http://howto.xgminer.com
And then running the same command without the directory prefix? e.g. in Terminal.app:

Thanks a lot. I uninstalled any other miner including MultiMiner 1.1.19 and set up 1.1.20. All clear.
