• Wallet use the official wallet please https://getmonero.org/downloads/
• Sync'ing is known to take a long time, so use a trusted remote node (unless your really paranoid) https://getmonero.org/resources/user-guides/remote_node_gui.html
• Backup your seed please USB and paper
• Download https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak
• Configure xmr-stak to use a pool I use https://nanopool.org/ (configuration instructions on website)
• Pick a CryptoNight coin to mine Monero or Electroneum, Electroneum is more profitable but only traded on Cryptopia

* You can bypass the wallet stage and use an exchange address in a pool, but I would only do this as a test. I strongly suggest you control your own keys and use a wallet.
