In my opinion guns shouldn't be allowed for the common people. Owning a gun should be punished with jail. Only that way the crime can be tackled efficiently and that makes the weapon industry impossible. I know not every country is appropriate for this approach, but I think for example Europe and the US is.
Common people don't have guns! Only the uncommon people have guns. Uncommon people force the common people to become slaves. They do it by using their guns. Why shouldn't the common people have guns to protect themselves?
A 250 pound policeman can easily overpower and kill a 90 pound granny. But if Granny has a gun, she has a chance... even against a bad policeman.
