It does not. I have had affairs with men 20 years older than me, and a boy that was only 21 (I was 37 that time). So it does not. Both of the relationships did not work out because of the geographical locations, however, age was not an issue at all. Now, my husband is 3 years younger than me, but we don't feel that different because we think and behave similarly.

I believe, that what matters in relationships is a mutual understanding. If it exists, the rest will easily follow!
