They may want to ban it, but it is nearly impossible to carry on effective measures to implement that decision. In essence, they just don´t like people with too much economic freedom.
Exactly, because the government is aware that bitcoin is widely popular and has many users. However, it is quite difficult for them to have control over bitcoin users because it is decentralize in nature. They won't get so much collections and revenue from it right now so what they are trying to do is to ban it, not considering the positive it gives to its people.
The government are just afraid of the possible things that might happen if they will accepted bitcoin because there is a lot of cases for bitcoin that it is getting a lot of attention from the criminals because of its anonymity that they can take advantage of because they can just send illegal transactions through bitcoin and stay undetected.
