As I mentioned with Stealth Addresses your $ONIONs can be "unlinked" from your ID. If you make sure to receive all of your $ONIONs in a stealth address it can never be linked back to you. It is still not 100% anonymous since the ONIONs could theoretically still be traced through the network. It can't be linked to you but a set of $ONIONs can still be tracked through the network.
The issue of "traceability" will be solved with DeepSend and Zero-knowledge proofs which are planned for Q2.
Onion are claiming/promising anonymous features from months, like Deepsend and they don't deliver anything. Regular alt sh*tcoin with TOR exits.
Stealth Address could change this, but I will look on only after they released it. Promising doesn't mean delivering.
In October DeepSend was planned for Q4 but the DeepOnion team realized that it wouldn't be possible and they moved DeepSend to Q2. This move was done way back in November last year and since then they have never "promised" that DeepSend will come any sooner. The plan is still for Q2 as it has been the last few months. You have probably heard mention of it for months since people are excited but everyone is saying that it will come in Q2, not sooner.
The addition of Stealth Addresses came as a recent announcement but it sounded like we won't have to wait long. There was even a Demo of it in the weekly update so the technology is already working, they are just fine-tuning it.
DeepOnion team has been very busy lately with: WooCommerce plugin making it possible to integrate $ONION payments for web businesses, updated desktop wallet to latest TOR version (0.3.3) that is integrated with OBFS4 and MEEK for circumventing regions with TOR blocks. All this in the last month or two. That is a very active development team, much more than I have seen almost anywhere else.
The complaints I hear about not being anonymous yet, come-on the project is 7 months old and is just getting started, it takes some time to get everything rolling... Now it is rolling and rolling fast. Upcoming are: Stealth Addresses, Android Wallet and Vote Central all coming in Q1. That is something to look forward to imo.
