https://chainz.cryptoid.info/geo/, is the explorer for the old network that still exists, but all the newly minted coins cannot be swapped for the new token as balances had to be present at time of snapshot block. Explorer was paid until mid-2018 so it will likely still track and display the network. I may be wrong, but old network will probably exist "infinitely" as there is no way to recall old blockchain.
And yes, you're right that they are wasting their time and we will likely have angry people coming over to this channel to requests swaps, but there is no way to reach out to everyone on the internet. Miners should be aware of what they are mining, just as investors should be aware of what they invest in.
