I believe that nowadays technologies are capable of handling the fake news, articles and misleading investigations.
The main problem is that one has to check too many sources and compare a lot of facts to get to the very bottom of the event and understand - is this representation truth or it is a fake. You can even see that people start to join groups in fake news hunting (bellingcat f.e.).
Now, what I think, is that Machine Learning and Neural Networks algorithms can actually handle this comparison and fact-checking, once you will train it on certain "true" information sources.
And currently, there are such algorithms in development already
