and then a list to stay away from?
In addition to what "wavelengthsf" mentioned above, you can also use "Badbitcoin" website (it gets updated frequently but shouldn't completely rely on it [some of the websites appear to be missing or haven't been listed yet]).
Take note: It's more of a general list, instead of focusing on mining vendors.

A simple rule: Stay away from websites that offer an attractive prices.
Nowadays there are very many sites that accept payment via Bitcoin, but there is no definite list. Because usually the site is only developed in a country only, because of the difficult confidence when buying and selling goods between countries. In my country there are now a lot of sites that accept Bitcoin, usually using Bitcoin is limited to forum members, buyers and sellers are from a bitcoin forum in my country. Trust is a major problem because of the difficulty of tracking down Bitcoin users, so criminals are much easier to perform. In contrast to the conventional BANK that can be reported to the police and blocking occurs. Currently there should be a regulation that governs Bitcoin for the realization of the use of Bitcoin which is much larger and wider among the people in the world.
