There's been quite a few incidents of older accounts being hacked. And since people are more inclined to trust older accounts, it's becoming a common practice to get a hold of an old account and using it to scam. So by verifying that you do indeed control the BTC address used in your loan from last year, you pretty much confirm that you are the original owner of your account
