But regarding holds, you need to make sure you know the type of altcoin you hodl because some coins will definitely crash back the way they mooned and leave people that holds confused disappointed and angry
If you look at the case of ZCG, it once mooned to 3$ ; a lot of people incl. me had high hopes
But now ZCG is gone abandoned and over with, which leaves hodlers in debt or loss
So make your choice

There has been many incidences when coins have lost its value for either being of no utility in the market or for being a scam and ponzi scheme. There has been recent incidence with coin called bitconnect that closed its official site without warning and scammed peoples money.
There was a similar case with Zclassic coin currently that rose to around 200$ due to fork called bitcoin private which was being airdropped to all btc and zcl holders and its currently just near 8$.
People have not only earned huge capital in crypto currencies, but have also lost quite much. Therefore, be careful of the coins you choose to invest in.
