Not all of it is panic.  Some people may feel a bit duped.  KNC made some strong claims, "we underpromise/overdeliver," "margin upon margin upon margin" etc., etc.
What are we expected to take away from these claims, if not "our commitments are the worst case scenarios, expect our product significantly sooner than projected, at a significantly higher spec"?

Now KNC is paying for its braggadocio.  Or not.
If the product ships on time, KNC's choice of skipping the testing stage will be seen as bold & daring.  If they fail, well...
