As what i have read and understand,  altcoin i guess "alternativecoin". There were lots of coin then, after bitcoin was born, all coin that follows are called altcoin.  Which let you have more chance to gain more coin in different methods yet all of those are called altcoin. Thats how amazing altcoin is,  it lets you take easy ways to gain more.
