I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.
I've seen some really severe cases where the post count drifts by hundreds. Since it is an old account it is possible that it has drifted to quite a large degree. I imagine theymos should've done a post recount right before implementing the merit system to avoid this sort of thing, or maybe they did and something else has occcured. Either way, I'm not sure we can tell one way or another for sure what happened to this account unless people are able to find archives of their old posts and what not.
That certain bug affects only the displayed
post count, not the activity which is the only basis of ranks before merit.
It can't be tied to the said reply by Theymos.
