He's probably somehow right. As we've already seen ethereum has a huge potential not only as a currency but also as a decentralized platform. Smart contracts, it's key innovation, have played one of the key roles of the ethereum price rise and cryptomarket rise in general over last year, as they provide unlimited use cases for Ethereum platform. Would we have seen all the ICOs and dapps If we hadn't had ethereum and smart contracts? Probably no. Ethereum is a lot more advanced than bitcoin as a multifunctional platform, at least as of now. If it'll be further developed faster then bitcoin it has a chance to overcome it soon. But from the other side if we see another unpredictable hardfork one day, it'll be a huge step back for ethereum again. There are to many 'ifs' in this ethereum vs bitcoin question.
