Everything is explained in this thread. Just take the time to learn about BTC (there's even a wiki for this) and converse with the community. Be informative and take time to spell check and you'll get merit eventually.

If you are just posting one liners without reading the posts that came before you in a thread then you are doing it wrong. Merit isn't something that is easily handed out.
