Most of the devs I know have a habit: They must do something every day 

But I tends to believe, upon certain maturity level, the more you try to improve it, the worse it gets. Raised level of complexity will reduce the robustness and flexibility of the system and result in more compatibility problem and customer confusion. A good approach is to be always prepared, but do NOTHING when it is not necessary

Although nothing is done, this wait and prepare action is high valuable and worth getting paid
