A scam does not necessarily have to do with money. A scam is, by definition, a dishonest scheme or fraud.
There is also something called the long con, which means that a company or individual will take a much longer time to prepare the mark for getting scammed when the opportunity is just right. Unfortunately for you, this incident will come back to bite you in the butt later, especially when its time for you to start raising funds.
