Yes, the government can kill the bitcoin in the way of banning or not allowing the bitcoin to be the use of the people around in their country. Correction they can replace the bitcoin. No matter what happens the bitcoin still the king of all crypto. They can create their coins, but they cant stop people believe in the bitcoin.
