Actually, it isn't that difficult to earn merit. Just try making a thoughtful or interesting post about something else besides merit.
I gave you a merit. Mainly to piss off the whingers, because they will think that is a wasted merit. But it isn't, because it shows that there is still merit to be awarded, and your post was short and to the point.
