I don't want to speak ill of Phin. I do have some concern, however, about his sudden change-of-heart and the backstory behind it.

 Something just doesn't feel right about that "relationship" to me, like Phin is being threatened in some way we aren't aware of.

 It's not normal for a songbird like him to suddenly stop singing his tune.
