This is because the project is manipulated by people that have a large amount of coins. They block the ask, sell into the bid and create panic.
Until there is strong enough news to overcome this with huge ask volume, they will continue to block any upward movement while they flip and accumulate.
why should people who have a lot of coins panic and block the demand thus lowering the price?

The whales are not panicking. They are creating panic to get the price lower so they can buy more cheaper.  Look at the price now, all the gains from mainnet are gone.
