Bitcoin / BTC / SHA256 -

- tip: If you don't mind having Java installed use Multibit instead of the normal BTC wallet client.
- WHY ? because the official Bitcoin wallet's block chain is like 12 gigabytes or something like that last i checked
- and if you use Multibit it works in a new way so you don't have to download anything almost.. turn it on and your synced, always.
- Armory is listed there to but i think it's a hybrid online wallet of sorts and i advise all users to avoid online wallets if they can.
Litecoin / LTC / Scrypt -
https://litecoin.org/- people love trashing on LTC and they have great points but it's entrenched and is actually in use across the globe unlike 98% of other coins.
Franko / FRK / Scrypt -

Securecoin / SRC - Dev = baritus -

- First to use a combo of new algo's with Quark and so far there is no GPU miner that works on pools publicly.

Off the top of my head these are my top 5 that came to mind with out giving it any thought at all.
I will add some more though..
also i will add some more info on this shortly.. such as what algo they use and some links to source topics, pools etc to get new guys going quick.
