Platon wrote:  "Democracy is the tyranny of the ignorant people".
I didn't use to agree with that, but, honestly, taking a look at my own country, I have seen how people choose a candidate based on their appearance and his wife. The government makes people stupid enough to vote for one or another based on a sandwich and in how they look. Take a look at Mexico, for instance. Enrique Peña Nieto, one of the most ignorant presidents in the whole world, was chosen because his wife used to be in TV, she's so-called "La Gaviota", and she was the main character of many 90's dramas of the most important --and stupidity provider-- TV channel, Televisa.
Most of the Mexicans just voted for him based on his "beauty" and the history from the TV, calling "La Gaviota" a woman deserving to become a princess. Now the complete country is a mess.
Also, people use to think about one or another candidate in the same way they think about football. They are with one or another political party basing their opinion in the feeling of "belonging", so they vote for one or another because they feel part of it, maybe because their parents are, but never because of the program.
In Mexico, the candidates, if you show you vote for them gives you $20 and a sandwich. And this is enough for many people to sell their votes...

So, yes. Maybe Platon was right.
