yes it is different because bitcoin is a digital currency that uses peer to peer networks and uses a database for its distribution. while ethereum is a chain platform block and functions like a virtual machine.
That was the difference from a technical point of view and honestly, a subject which majority of investors are least interested in. all they care about is making money and that too as quickly as possible. Bitcoin is the king of crypto coins while ETH is known as the number one altcoin.

Bitcoin has a growth rate far beyond even the imagination of ETH. BTC is present in a very limited rather scarce amount but ETH is available in abundance.
