However it is important to me to know when the packet is being processed by customs as in germany that's not a convenient process as in the us. It can take several days (or a week) until you even get notified that you have to get there and pay taxes.

Yes, it would be great to have the tracking number before the package enters the country to see that everything works well with customs.
