Drones are now being tested in South Wales for the purpose of search and rescue. UAVs are best in providing the birds eye view and offer vital data that could help in search and rescue. but Phil Hanson, Aviation Technical Assurance manager at MCA, says Its still too early to comment on how we will move forward from the trials and that Drones still cannot replace helicopters, coastguard rescue teams or lifeboats.
Drones can be used to widen the range and view of emergency response team. Although helicopter rescue team is effective, using drones can be done by multiple people covering a wider range to rescue people.
I strongly agree on your statement luckymandy! The use of drones in emergency response is a very good idea can save thousands of lives during accidents. The camera and flexibilty of drone on air is a very crucial to those split second on rescue missions.
