I personally left Eligius once I learned Luke Jr. used the pool (and thus my hashpower) to execute a 51% attack to destroy an altcoin without my knowledge. I also came across some pretty religiously intolerant posts he made and learned he includes religious text in the blocks Eligius finds which made it easy to switch as well...
Off topic but very interesting. Care to give an example? Kind of relates to KNCMiners as a significant amount of hosted customers were switched to Eligius.
What is the story behind the attack on Coiledcoin?Regardless if the altcoin deserved to be destroyed or not, I didn't like the idea of my hashrate being used without my knowledge for a 51% attack. We place a lot of trust in pool operators and in my book that's a big nono.
Eligius miners aware of prayers in block headers? My spiritual practice is closest to Nichiren Buddhism but I'm very tolerant of any spiritual belief based on compassion and tolerance (I love the new Pope!) so the prayers in block headers wasn't a dealer breaker at first but once I read some of Luke Jr's quotes about his religious beliefs I was turned off big time. The worst quotes are posted deeper in the thread I believe.
There was also some stuff about Luke Jr changing Eligius to block any transactions that reused addresses in response to the coin tracking stuff that popped up recently which I also disagreed with. Was easy to switch...
Edit: I also thought the deal BFL had with Luke Jr to "receive the first BFL ASIC" to win the delivery bet when in fact it was just hasing in BFL's office was extremely shady...
It's funny because those of us who have been in the bitcoin world for a much longer time forget that there are a lot of newer miners who don't know any of the legacy of hostile and troll-like actions of certain members of the community.
