holochain makes decentralised apps possible. you can't run dapps on a blockchain (remember the crypto kitty disaster on ethereum and this was just one little dapp).
also its a meta open source software everyone can use for there dapp / business model without even using a crypto currency
Imo it is the first real competitor for IOTA.
